Avant-Garde Collection
Language Of The Artist
Italy 2023
This project challenged me to design an avant-garde collection inspired by an artist and their works of our choosing. Selecting Zdzisław Beksiński, a Polish Dystopian Surrealist painter, I was able to take elements from his work and interpret them in mine along with my base concept.
Ex from his work: Distressed & Decaying elements, Wrinkled materials, Cruciforms, Cocoons/Spiders, Bones, etc.
Took initial inspiration from the concept of a dystopian, post-apocalyptic bridal & wedding idea. The collection was based on using some elements in bridalwear but then more so "overshadowing" and creating it into a more disturbing avant-garde & "unconventional" mood inspired by Beksiński.
Final Look consists of: A headpiece (meant to represent a veil) using fabric manipulation to create a wrinkled effect, along with a hand-distressed front & back veil. A knit top, again using fabric manipulation present on one side to create a wrinkled effect along with an emerging chest piece and hand-distressing throughout. Lastly, knit pants with a hand-distressed, tight cocoon style long skirt sewn into the waistband to make it all one piece.
CARIANI branding on interior & discolored throughout.
ALSO TO BE NOTED: Pages were to be printed & presented in this manner, hence why this project is not set up as a traditional project.
